Draughtsman chairs (also known as drafting chairs or drafter chairs) are available with glides (fixed feet), castors or various other types of castors which can allow the wheels to be locked whilst either seated on the chair, off the chair or by manual locking. This is all dependent on the user's preference and how they work.

This type of chair will have a foot ring, which can be fixed or adjustable, with the adjustable foot ring being of the most benefit and preferable by most users. This allows the user to rest their feet whilst working. Due to the nature of the chair, it is not likely that the user will be able to rest their feet on the ground, so the foot ring give them a much more comfortable seating position. Vinyl options offer more suitability as lab chairs in lab and clean room environments.
